Hello and welcome to JustAnswer!
I'm assuming it's the liftgate you're having trouble with.
It's possible that the latch itself may have mechanically found but it appears there was physical damage to the liftgate and possible the cable and handle. If it was opening up until that point and you're unsure if the cable is installed correctly then that may be the only issue.
Are you able to upload a picture of where you reinstalled the cable?
