Sprinter 2500: 2007 sprinter 2500 w/ 3.5L gas engine with only

Customer Question

2007 sprinter 2500 w/ 3.5L gas engine with only 36,000 miles on it, which I just bought used and have put only about 200 miles on, has developed a high pitch whine which increases in pitch and volume directly related to engine RPM's, whether moving forward or not. Some online research suggests upper idler pulley bearings have been the culprit. What other sources might there be? and approximately how many hours labor should that take to repair? Thank you very much.

Hi Welcome to Just Answer! The idler pulley could be the cause of the noise but it could also be the power steering pump or alternator causing the noise or an issue with the transmission causing the noise best thing to do would be remove the drive belt and see if the noise goes away that will tell you if the noise is something driven by the belt or something else.
