Dodge RAM 1500: replacing the lower ball joints on a 2004 1500

Customer Question

replacing the lower ball joints on a 2004 1500 ready to press the old ones out but there seems to be some sort of cap on the top side of the joint. does that have to be removed before pressing?

Hello and welcome to Just Answer.

My name is XXXXX XXXXX I will assist you with the ball joint.

There is a snap ring that will need to be removed before pressing it out on the HD 2 WD models.
But no cap that I have ever seen. They can take a fair amount of force to push out.

Your questions/comments are welcome.

Thank you.

i see on the new joint that ther is a snap ring to be placed once you press it in. but on the old on you cannot get to the top side where the ring should be for this cap .. the cap has three notches in it s lip like you could spin it off with a cold chisel or something bu so far I have been unable to move it. These are the original joints.
