2001 Dodge Ram 2500 4X4: V10..back down..loose power..the engine heats…

I own a 2001 Dodge...
I own a 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 4X4 with a V10. Lately I have been having problems with the Idle...After driving for a while the Idle seems to want to stay at a higher range and takes a while to idle back down once I come to a stop. I also seem to loose power once the engine heats up. It has approx 180000km and a new transmission with a shift kit.
Another thing that has been happening lately is that when I turn left sharply my horn beeps???? any sugestions??? Mark [email protected]

Welcome to just answer.com. I'm here to help you and your 100% satisfaction is my goal.

The worn as easy as either problem in the Clock spring at the top of the steering column or the wires in the steering column but most commonly this is a sign of a faulty clock spring . As for your idle problem that is very often caused by a faulty throttle position sensor , you'll need a lab scope to checked this and see if there any glitches in the voltage as you Move the throttle open and closed . Or you can just replace it if you like

Thanks Sean...It seems to have done the job regarding the idle but it still does not have the power it had a couple of years ago...as well as it does not want to kick down inot low gear some times when taking off...IT seems very sluggish for some reason???
These very commonly lose power because of faulty catalytic converters, remove the upstream 02 sensors and see if your power returns if it does then you have a blockage in the catalytic converter and they should be replaced

I wish it was that easy Sean but they have already been removed and I have a FlowMaster Cat-back Exhaust with new O2 Sensors right before removal... I do appreciate you taking your time trying to help me with this problem.

Thanks

I AM VERY GLAD THAT I TOOK A CHANCE ON YOUR PROBLEM SOLVING SKILLS. I WAS SUCCESSFUL IN REPLACING THE FUEL PUMP. MY TRUCK RUNS LIKE A CLOCK. IT RUNS LIKE THE DAY I BOUGHT IT. NO LUNGING FORWARD, THE TURBO REACTS THE SECOND I STOMP ON THE GAS, AND IT HAS A LOT MORE POWER AND EVEN SOUNDS BETTER TO ME. IT SAVED ABOUT $500.00 BY DOING THE WORK MYSELF. I GIVE YOU ALL THE CREDIT FOR YOUR DIAGNOSING THE PROBLEM, JUST FROM THE SYMPTONS I GAVE YOU OVER THE e MAIL. I WILL USE YOUR WEB SITE AGAIN AND REFER MY FRIENDS. THANKS SO MUCH FOR THE HELP.
