2006 Dodge Grand Caravan: kms..driving, no squealing noises..replacing…

Customer Question

My Dealership told me my 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan with 38000 kms needed new brakes. I had no problems while driving, no squealing noises or the usual signs that brakes need replacing. It just seemed a little odd to me, I do not think I needed new brakes. Your comments please. Trish

hello Trish welcome to just answer.

when you go in for regular service they will inspect the brakes and advise you if they need service.

whats happening here is your brakes are most likely getting low and will need to be replaced soon due to normal wear.

they don't have to make noise.

did that say what percent the brake pads are at ?

No they did not say what percentage the brake pads were at
Dodge Mechanic: Dino, auto tech replied 8 years ago

ok is the car still at the dealership ?

if so call them and ask what the percentage is .

if you do a lot of stop and go driving then the front brake pads will wear faster then normal versus highway driving.

I have left a message with the dealership to call me back on the percentage
Dodge Mechanic: Dino, auto tech replied 8 years ago

ok most likely the brakes are about 25 % or so and they are looking to save you a trip back if they wont last until the next service.

if the brakes are around 10-15 % then they might not make it to the next service so that could be the reason they are telling you they are due.

Picked up the Van - They told me the brakes were worn to 1/32nd of an inch.
Have no idea if that is good or bad.

The brakes are fixed & I will be watching how many kms I get out of these new brakes as I still think the old ones should have gone more than 38000kms.
I think I am good, I appreciate your help.
Thanks
