2000 dodge durango: light comes..oil pressure..light goes..goes away

Customer Question

my 2000 dodge durango 'check gages' light comes on when I stop and the oil pressure gage goes down for a few seconds to 0, then pops back up. Then, the light goes away and everything is fine. The truck doesn't run any different when this happens. what to do?

Hello and welcome to Just Answer, my name is Matt.

This can happen if the engine oil level is low.

Have you checked the oil level?

Customer: replied 7 years ago.
no, I haven't, but I will. It is due for an oil change.
Expert:  Matt Hardy replied 7 years ago.

I would check the oil level right away!

If it is not low, then the most likely cause is the oil pressure sending unit. This is a small sensor on the engine that sends a signal to the oil pressure gauge.

Customer: replied 7 years ago.
ok, I'll get it changed and see if it goes away. I'll let you know how it goes. thanks.
