One quick info question first... is your speedometer working?

9/10 times its the rear ABS sensor in the rear differential ("the pumpkin") however, most of those time the speedo is inoperative at the same time. If the pedal seems firm, i would defintely suspect an ABS sensor, as the ABS light will kick on the red brake light when there is a problem, everytime. If you can get access to a code reader (AutoZone, Advanced, ect...) will usually read the codes for free, i would have the ABS sensors checked. More than likely, i would suspect that rear ABS sensor, even though the speedo sill works.
