2004 dodge dakota: with the 4.7 v8..hose..hood to check fluid level

I have a 2004 dodge dakota with the 4.7 v8 with a sudden overheating problem. Top rad. hose was rock hard when i opened the hood to check fluid level in expansion tank. Also blows sparatic heat then cold air. any help would be appreciated before i take to a service shop. thank you

I take it you haven't replaced anything on it yet?


Does the overheating happen at lower speeds, or does it happen while driving down the highway?


Did you check the coolant level in the radiator once the engine has coold off?
