i have a 2004 5.9 cummins and my truck is running rough and i took it to a mechanic and he told me that the valves needed to be adjusted and i have a friend that has a cummins and he said that the valves are hydraulic

Hi. The Cummins engines have always had flat solid mushroom lifters, making the valvetrain adjustible. This may or may not fix your problem, but it needs to be done every 100-150,000 miles.
