The old V-8's took 5 quarts of oil with a new filter.Having said that there were 2 oil filters available for that engine back then. One filter was about 5 inches tall and the optional filter was approx. 8 inches tall. The big filter held almost a whole quart of oil, while the shorter one held about 1/2 quart. Either way,do the oil change, refill with 5 quarts and start the engine.Let the engine idle a couple of seconds until the oil light goes off on the dash.Stop the engine and check the dipstick. The difference between the "add" line and the "full" line on the dipstick is 1 quart so top off the oil accordingly. If you have any more questions don't hesitate to write back. Good Luck. AL
