My cats have fleas and...

My cats have fleas and were just treated last Friday and my son has a ton of scabs on the bottoms of his legs and top of feet. We are using hydrocortizone 1% but they don’t seem to be getting better. We just started using aloe on it last night. And also he wore long socks to bed. Today it really doesn’t look any better. I have red dots on my lower legs too but mine seem to be getting better. His are open/closed scabs. I have him a Zyrtec this morning also.
What else can I do to help this legs heal faster. Pic coming.

How old is your son?
When did the scabs start?
Does he have them in other areas of his body (finger webs, wrist, arms, armpits, breast, around the bellybutton, things, etc)?

My son is 13. Not quite sure exact time. It took a little bit to realize that we think it’s fleas. So he’s probably had them about 3 weeks now. They are only on the legs and feet as shown in picture. He says they are itchy. I’m guessing he is itching them and they keep opening.

Scratching the spots causes them to last longer. I would use an antibiotic cream as well such as mupirocin or fusidic acid and if you can not access them (they are prescription drugs), you can use Neosporin cream 2-3 times a day over it. If the itchiness is too intense and he can not resist it, I would advise you to use calamine lotion or cold compresses in itchiest areas. Hydrocortisone 1% can be used as well 1-2 times a day thin layer on the itchy spots. If you will use both hydrocortisone and Neosporin cream, apply first a thin layer of hydrocortisone before applying Neosporin.

If he is not better or he is any worse I would suggest that he has another check. It is important to make sure that flea infestation is gone and they do not start to get fleas again. If he gets new spots this indicates that there are still fleas around.

My husband wants him to wear high socks. Would it be wise to cover the wounds with neosporin and bandaids under the socks?

This would be a bit messy. It is a bit difficult to put bandaids on so many socks. Also, he may continue to scratch them even though covered with socks. I would focus on relieving the itchiness and if Zyrtec is not that helpful, he may be given Benadryl as this is more effective to relieve itchiness (it may cause him to be a bit sleepy).

Zyrtec is a 24-hour medication. So, it may take an hour to work and its effect may last 24 hours.

It is not a problem to start Benadryl now (one 25 mg pill every 6-8 hours) but not repeat Zyrtec while he takes Benadryl.

Ok. I’ll see how he is later when I get home from work. If still itchy I’ll try the benedryl.

Also, I would put Neosporin especially on the bumps that have a yellow crust or that ooze.
