In the past couple months,my finger nail keep braking during minor normal activities, like pulling the covers at night. I keep them cutand I think I am eating properly, taking multy B vitamin.Never had this proble before. I have high blood pressure and afib, both under Dr care.age 73

Doctor's Assistant: When was last time you had a check up? Is there a history of high blood pressure in your family?

Last month to my regular doctor, heart doctor and other specialist, taking meds for blood pressure,blood thinner and baby aspirin

Doctor's Assistant: Anything else in your medical history you think the doctor should know?

Knee surgery,,for fused vertabra in my neck,ski cancer,,back pain and injections in back for pain. All under control and taking neccessay meds.

You mentioned the injection in the back for pain, that often involves steroids which can cause this problem. However, there are ways to remedy this through supplements. Have you tried taking any supplements for this condition?

no but i had prior injections five years ago with no problem

Unfortunately it's probably the repetitive use of the steroids that causes this.

Your other medications wouldn't cause this sort of nail problems.

The steroid decreases the biotin in your system which causes the brittling nails.

You can take biotin supplements which help reverse the problem.
