I was wondering if I should be worried about my new tattoo?

Customer Question

I was wondering if I should be worried about my new tattoo? I have several tattoos and have never had a problem. 2 days ago I got a tattoo on my thigh and today it is more painful than it was yesterday and part of it appears to be oozing a small amount
of liquid. I've never had this happen before. I went to a reputable shop and my artist is very clean. The side that's closest to the outer part of my thigh is healing beautifully. It's the part that's near the inner part of my thigh that is slightly more swollen
and shiney. I have attached a picture and can send more if needed.

Also... My skin underneath the tattoo, to the side of my knee, looks purple with white spots.

This is Dr. David

that fluid is serosanginous fluid which can occur after tattoos.

you need to clean the area with soap and water and apply a clean gauze with neosporin to where the fluid is coming out

the purple is venous blood from some edema and venous congestion from the skin trauma from the tattoo

that will get better as well

you should work on resting and elevating the leg up above your heart if you can.

the swelling will get better with time.

if the pain gets worse, you should see a doctor to see if you need a course of antibiotics.

I have a question about the heat radiating off of the tattoo.
I've been washing it a few times a day, and it's still warm to the touch with some redness around it.
I have other tattoos but I can't remember much about the healing process.
How long does heat typically last after getting a tattoo?
Expert:  Dr. David replied 1 year ago.

This is Dr. David

the warmth and heat is from the inflammation on the skin from the tattoo

this can last in some patients for 1-3 weeks after the tattoo, sometimes depending on how large of an area

that is good you are washing the area a few times a day.

this will prevent skin infections.
