White bumps around the mouth - Is it Milia?

Customer Question

I have lots of tiny white bumps around my mouth. I think they are called Milia after reading online. What can I do to get rid of them?

Is it on the lip border or outside the lips .On the lips the most common cause is Fordyce spots or ectopic sebaceous glands. No treatment required for this condition.

Around the lips 2 possibilities 1) milia which are miniature epidermal cysts which can be removed 2) Molluscum contagiosum which is a poxvirus infection and contagious.Should be treated by curettage or cryo and also can be selflimiting.a photo graph will help in precise diagnosis.

These are indeed suggestive of milia. They can be extracted with a needle and curette.

Is there a way to remove them and keep them from coming back?

You need to meet the dermatologist to get it removed. Sunblock creams applied regularly by day and differin gel by night can help to a certain extent.
