Customer Question
My 18 year old son...
My 18 year old son has sufffered with eczema since he was a baby. Until about the last 6 months we have been able to keep it under control with creme, unsented/hypo allergenic everything and the occasional 1% cortisone creme. For the past 6 months these measures have not helped and my son walks up in the morning in tears, dreads to shower for the pain it will cause and his PJ's are stained with blood from scratching. We have seen a few dertmatologists and recently started to give him an antihistamine, ibuprofen and ice. We are also awaiting an appointment to see an alergist.
Any advice would be appreciated.

hello,

since he has so much eczema, i am assuming he has atopic dermatitis.

i am sure he has been using various topical steroid creams all this while.

it will be the best to start him on elidel cream once daily and desonide lotion once daily for atleast 2- 3 weeks.

also to stop the itching he needs to take tablet loratidine 5 mg once daily.

i am sure this will help him.

also it will be wise to moisturize his skin twice daily with vaseline lotion.

please feel free to ask me in case you have any queries.

Thanks for the reply. A few questions.

Are Elidel creme and desonide lotion both over the counter cremes or do I need a prescription? If prescription- how do you suggest I get the prescription?

I am giving him Aerius to stop the itching, is loratidine a better option?

hello,

Aerius is desloratidine which is like loratidine, so you can continue giving him aerius.

elidel cream and desonide both need a prescription.

you will need to ask your doctor for a prescription.

please feel free to ask me in case you have any queries.
