Thanks for putting up your question on Just Answer.

I do not recommend that you file it down yourself , for 2 reasons :

1. The shape and extent of dentures, every millimetre of them has been made according to your jaws. These dentures are custom built for you. If you file down one edge more than what is necessary, then the fit of the dentures will be severely affected.

2. There are specific instruments meant to file dentures, available at the dentists office, or a dental laboratory. After the dentures are filed down, they need to be repolished with a special paste and special buffs. The mucosal lining inside our mouths cannot tolerate a rough denture surface.
All this is very difficult to accomplish at home.

Therefore I strongly suggest that you consult a dentist for readjusting your dentures. Till then, dont wear the lower denture.

Hope this answers your question. Feel free to contact me again for more information.
