I have a family...

I have a family member who's husband is a doctor. For years now, her husband has been her PCP and the only doctor that she has been seeing. He controls her medications, diagnoses, prescriptions, blood work and ect. In the past year there have been instances to where she has had psychiatric break downs, with no before history of this happening, and each time he has controlled the narrative, Each time he has called the cops on her and sent to psych wards that are in facilities that he works at. The problem is that my family member cannot remember parts of these things happening, she describes feelings of heart racing, tiredness, hallucinations and ect. She has come to believe that her husband may be slowly dosing her food to perhaps poison her and claim control of their daughter. In the past he has cheated on her multiple times and each time they have issues, he somehow finds ways to "be her doctor" and perscribe new things for her. This last time was two days ago. We have now discovered that the reason he called the cops this time was because she was running down the road screaming for help before she passed put. It has come to light that before that occourance, he had her locked in a room for over five hours because he was "scared she was going to hurt herself". and according to her she was running down the road, no because of a psychiatric break, but because she was trying to escape and get to the neighbors house for help.

Sorry, I just realized that I never asked a question. I have multiple questions and my mind is going a mile a minute right now. I guess the questions I have are such as these: Is there a way that we, though we are not POA's, legally push for blood work to be done to see if he has been drugging her? Is it illegal for him to be treating his own wife and to be controlling lab work and medications? How can we go about protecting her in this situation? We have taken measures to make sure that no information about her medical state currently is available to himIf we do suspect foul play then how can we legally go about making sure that it is discovered and bring it to light

Response 1: First and foremost, he should not be her doctor. There is a conflict of interest there. You need to find another doctor for your family member and take her to that doctor for complete evaluation.

Her husband should be reported to the medical board for prescribing psychotic medications to his spouse and also to make matters worse, there is a potential custody issue. So, the husband has interest in seeing his wife in a mental mess to have advantage in the custody case. This should NOT be happening. He should not be her doctor. Please contact Arkansas medical board immediately and report the husband. Click here for complaint information.

If possible, you should find a way to remove the family from the premises IMMEDIATELY.

You should file for emergency Guardianship over your family member to take take legal control of her person and affairs. Once appointed, you would be the one making decisions for her and not her husband.

You can obtain Guardianship forms at the Courthouse in the Clerk's office or online if the Courthouse makes forms available online.
