Hello, Someone in california is accusing me that i used someone else's pictures and catfished them they are also accusing me that i supposedly sent text messages that i'm going to kill them
Criminal Lawyer: Legal Eagle, Lawyer replied 6 months ago

I'm sorry to hear that. What did they say exactly?

Ask Your Own Criminal Law Question
Customer reply replied 6 months ago
they said that they have already involved cops and the cops have supposedly pulled out my IP address and verified that it's me and they said i threatened to kill them and that's a crime i'm gonna go to jail thats what they have been telling me.
Criminal Lawyer: Legal Eagle, Lawyer replied 6 months ago

I'm so sorry to hear about that. So now that I know the layout, could you help me understand a bit about what questions you have about this?

i want to know can they arrest me for false accusations? can they arrest me for catfishing?
Criminal Lawyer: Legal Eagle, Lawyer replied 6 months ago

I see what you mean. So, the answer to your question is yes they can arrest you; however, they must have probable cause to do so. Do you think that you did anything that would give them probable cause to arrest you at all?

Ask Your Own Criminal Law Question
Customer reply replied 6 months ago
No i have not threatened them in any way i have not catfished them
Criminal Lawyer: Legal Eagle, Lawyer replied 6 months ago

I see what you mean. It is often that people make threats without thinking about all of the steps involved. It is probable that this person is just upset about something that happened that may or may not had something to do with you. Regardless, the police conduct investigations to determine whether they have probable cause to arrest. In this case, if there is no evidence, unless the evidence is completely fabricated, they won't arrest you. What other questions did you have for me regarding this?
