A collection agency called me and said I had a six year old

Customer Question

A collection agency called me and said I had a six year old debt to an online payday loan company. They said I had closed out my checking account. I have stopped paying them because they have not given me proof of debt. Can they prosecute me for the old debt or should I offer to pay them off.

Good morning: My name is ***** ***** I would be happy to provide general information regarding your question. This answer to your question is governed by what is called the Statute of Limitations (which is the time period a suit can be brought against an individual to recover any past owed debts). Every state has a different Statute of Limitations. What state would this be pending in?
