I don't know if you're considering hiring an attorney but if you are then an attorney could almost certainly get the criminal aspect resolved with just a fine, maybe a class on alcohol abuse, and then a type of plea like a pretrial diversion or a deferred adjudication which does not leave a conviction on his record.
