VerifiedHi - my name is XXXXX XXXXX I'm a Criminal Law litigation attorney here to assist you.
It is not "illegal" to modify the weight for your trigger pull. Most laws that prohibit modifications are geared toward prohibiting a weapon from becoming concealed (sawed-off shotgun) or making a weapon an automatic or semi-automatic. The real threat is not criminal charges because of the modification. Instead, if the weight is lightned, it makes the gun much easier to discharge under low stress on the trigger. If you were to accidentally discharge the gun and it injured or killed someone, you could be accused of being negligent by reducing the trigger pull, making the gun more dangerous than it has to be. If this were alleged and proven, it could cause you civil liability if you were sued.
