Certainly she has been appointed a public defender by now. That would have happened within a few days after she was arrested, when she was arraigned.
Criminal defense attorneys don;t take payments. If you have $5,000 to $10,000 for a retainer, you can hire a local criminal defense attorney. Otherwise, she will likely have to go with a public defender.
