If a person is being investigated for drug trafficing, can an aqaintance who has nothing to do with it be investigated and charged also?

There is no law that would prevent the police or district attorneys office from investigating the acquantnce. However, if they found that there wasn't any evidence that the acquantance committed any crimes, or conspired to commit any crimes, then they probably wouldn't pursue a prosecution.

If there was evidence, even circumstantial evidence, that a crime was commited by the acquaintance, then the DA could potentially charge and attempt to prosecute them.
