Nissan North America September 10, 2021 Consumer Affairs CC: Kimber Ritsche P. O. Box(###) ###-#### Email:***@******.*** Franklin, TN###-##-####USA Web Site: https://www.headquarternissan.com/ Web Site: nissan-global.com Subject: Nissan CVT Transmission Kimber Ritschel Claim no:(###) ###-####hone: 1-***-***-**** Ext: 7 (claim denied as work was not done by Nissan dealer but by Eagle Transmission invoice RO#(###) ###-####Nissan part no. 3102M-3VXOCRE ) October 1, 2021 12:00 PM Talked to John ID#(###) ###-####and Pam ID#(###) ###-####Nissan North America, Consumer Affairs, P. O. Box(###) ###-#### Franklin, TN###-##-####I am requesting on behalf of Kimber Ritschel a refund on the cost of the new transmission of $4447.56 plus and extension bumped on her current warranty to 10-years/120,000-miles. My daughter Kimber Ritschel has a 2018 Nissan Altima 2.5L vin no: *****************. When purchased as a used car in August 2019 it had 43489 miles on it. But 1n September 2021 and 81787 miles it required a new transmission at a cost of $4447.56 (see attached Eagle Transmission invoice RO#(###) ###-####Nissan part no. 3102M-3VXOCRE ). In 2010—after several class action lawsuits and countless customer complaints—Nissan agreed to extend the warranty on its CVTs found in select models built between 2003 and 2010. The extended warranty covered the units for up to 10-years/120,000-miles. Of course, all those transmissions are now out of warranty. A few years later, Nissan extended the warranty on select vehicles built between 2012 and 2017. The extension bumped the warranty up from 60 months/60,000 miles to 84 months/84,000 miles. Then because of Nissan CVT transmission problems (see below) and Nissan stopped putting CVT transmissions in some of models. I am requesting on behalf of Kimber Ritschel a refund on the cost of the new transmission. Nissan Extend the Warranty on Its CVT Transmission? In 2010—after several class action lawsuits and countless customer complaints—Nissan agreed to extend the warranty on its CVTs found in select models built between 2003 and 2010. The extended warranty covered the units for up to 10-years/120,000-miles. Of course, all of those transmissions are now out of warranty. A few years later, Nissan extended the warranty on select vehicles built between 2012 and 2017. The extension bumped the warranty up from 60 months/60,000 miles to 84 months/84,000 miles. Right, so now you know what to look out for, and have learned a bit on how the CVT works. Now, it's time to look in-depth into the problems facing Nissan's CVT transmissions. Since Nissan first introduced its CVT into the US-bound Murano in 2002, it didn't take long for problems to arise. Customers have increasingly reported cases of transmission failures over the years. So, this issue has in fact been going around for a very, very long time. It has even resulted in a wide number of class-action lawsuits filed against the company. This is not to mentioned significant financial losses for Nissan to cover for the cost of replacing customers' broken CVT transmissions. MANUFACTURER: Nissan - Certain Vehicles with CVT Transmissions SUMMARY: Nissan CVT issues are common among Nissan vehicles. Otherwise known as a continuously variable transmission, the feature was intended to increase the performance of vehicles by creating smoother gear shift capability. From 2012 to 2018, several models of Nissan vehicles received the transmission, including the Sentra, Versa, Versa Note, Altima, Rogue, and Murano models. Some of the most common issues with the vehicles directly relate to the transmission. Reported issues include loss of power, transmission jerking, transmission slipping, CVT coolant hose leaks and failures, and a CVT error message being displayed. These problems call the Nissan CVT transmission reliability into question and can result in serious harm to unsuspecting drivers. Nissan extended the warranty on some of these vehicles equipped with the … read more
