Our home owner's insurance...

Our home owner's insurance company is canceling our policy April 1 based mostly on a claim the adjuster told me they would pay for last spring. When I contacted my agent about the cancellation, he told me that everything should have been covered (less our deductible). We asked them to extend our policy 90 days so we could get the repairs made but they denied our request. Now my agent says once everything is fixed to call him and he will rewrite the policy. That sounds sketchy to me....

Just talking to my agent and trying to contact the adjuster again. When I first made contact with him he said that I must have misunderstood their willingness to pay out the claim for full replacement rather than cash value, and that we could still do that. I then tried to contact him for over a week about specifically what was covered and he didn't respond. When I contacted my agent again, he called the adjusters supervisor who said that adjuster no longer worked for the company. We lost a week's time for repairs, now they won't extend and I'm worried we wont be able to get a decent rate anywhere because we will have been canceled.

My agent said we have the "best policy they offer" and should have had no problem with the initial claim. (A policy they don't even write anymore.)

When I contacted the adjuster a couple weeks ago, he said that everything had been explained in the letter that he sent me last spring. I have searched my email and have every correspondence from him except that one. I did get an email saying if I had questions to call him on the day he said the letter should have been received. I did call him and he did NOT articulate the fact that we could have had repairs done and then they would pay for it. I received a copy of the letter from his supervisor last week. I still can't figure out what is and isn't covered.....we were also told that we did not have coverage for tree removal which we apparently do. I just pulled a copy of my original policy from 2002 and it says our deductible is only $500. I do not remember ever changing that, can it be changed without my permission?

You should file a complaint wiht the Michigan Insurance Commission who will conduct an investigation and force them to pay the claim and reinstate your policy. This is known as insurance bad faith and the insurance commission will enforce your policy rights for you.
