A very old debt...

A very old debt resurfaced with a new collection agency. I requested debt validation, and in their response they included statements from the creditor with payments labeled “agency payments” that I did not make. Those newer alleged payments are now keeping this on my report and I don *don’t know how to continue.

Lawyer's Assistant: What state is this in? And when did the issue begin?

Illinois, the original contact from creditor was dated 2/9, received 2/14. I sent the validation request and received the falsified validation a few days ago

Lawyer's Assistant: Have you contacted the manufacturer?

No. I was unsure how to handle this.

You can contest the statement as inaccurate. Also you may reject it as time barred where old debts.A lawyer letter from a local lawyer can be effective in several ways. It can avoid costly litigation and help bring about a settlement. It also helps organize the claim and if it goes to court shows the judge you tried in good faith to resolve it!By being prepared and pressing your claim, the other side should feel the pressure and consider the risk of losing and legal fees. That realization can help bring about a settlement! Please let me know if the reply is acceptable by responding “yes” or “acceptable”

but I have a clarifying question. I am confused by the alleged “agency payments”. They supplied several months of statements from the original creditor with the same dollar amount listed as this type of payment in 2013. I have my bank statements and none of those payments were made by me, nor was I even receiving these bills at the time. Is there a term for this type of falsified payment?
mistake or fraud. You also want any document showing this new agent owns this debt and has standing. If it doesn’t it cannot pursue it!Please let me know if the reply is acceptable by responding “yes” or “acceptable”
