What should I do if I took my car to be fixed and painted

Customer Question

What should I do if I took my car to be fixed and painted (since it was crashed) and I was quoted at one price. Now that the car is ready, the price I have to pay is double. The mechanic does not want to give me the vehicle until I pay him twice what we
had agreed upon.

What state is this in?(Most states have very specific rules regarding how much auto mechanics can charge once they have provided an estimate, but it is based on individual state laws).
