I have a friend that just got her car repoed by one of those Title Loan places. The price they want her to pay to get the car back is just ouragious. She has decided to let them keep the car but they are also telling her she has to pay a fee to recover he personal belongings out of the car. Can they do that. Can they hold her belongings?
Thank you for your question. I look forward to working with you to provide you the information you are seeking.

These title loan companies are just unscrupulous. Unfortunately, if she had a contract with them, they could repossess the car, but even if they repossessed the car they must release her personal property and if they refuse she can sue them for the damages and loss of her property.

They are telling her she can come get her property but that she will have to pay a fee to do so. Can they charge her a fee to recover her personal property?

No they cannot charge her a fee to just get her personal property out of the vehicle. They can charge her a fee and the balance to get the car itself back but they cannot hold her personal property and if they do she can sue for that property or to recover any money she pays them to get her personal property back.
