I bought OCEAN ENERGY INC. stock in Jan.1971,500 common stock.
They merged with Seagull in 1998,Houston,Tx.
Mr.J.Patrick Droppleman,President&CEO, tells me that when they merged,
they sold them only one part, but Seagull insisted on taking the name
Ocean Energy so he took the first letters of both words and named the company
OCENCO Incorporated. They were offering $40.00 a share.Now offering$240.00
a share.I don't understand how you can just give a name away when there are
common stock out there.
They were indicted for something? I am 77 years old and not very smart about
these things. I can sure use the money but I feel something is not right.
I own no other stock, bonds ormoney orders or anything.I do not know anyone
to ask questions of.Is there some way I can get this researched without a
hugh cost?
I have the original shares.I don't no how many times I almost got discusted
and threw them away.
I will appreciate anything you can tell me.
Sincerely

INFOLAWYER :

Hello and thank you for the question.

INFOLAWYER :

There should be a record of what was sold and what shares were issued

INFOLAWYER :

The broker that handled the trade would be able to obtain it

INFOLAWYER :

you may also consider a complaint with the SEC

INFOLAWYER :

which can investigate for free for you what happened

INFOLAWYER :

A lawyer locally may also send a letter to the company's legal department

INFOLAWYER :

and a subpoena may issue during legal proceedings should it come to that

INFOLAWYER :

Is that clear and acceptable or can I clarify anything?

INFOLAWYER :

would you like a directory as well for finding local counsel?

Customer:

What is SEC?How do I contact them?

Customer:

I would like a directory.

INFOLAWYER :

Gladly

INFOLAWYER :

http://www.sec.gov/contact.shtml

INFOLAWYER :

the securities and exchange commission deals with and investigates security impropertieties

INFOLAWYER :

along with US attorneys office

INFOLAWYER :

but I would proceed with the company first

INFOLAWYER :

as there may be an explanation and resolution to be reached that way

INFOLAWYER :

For a directory, I suggest martindale.com and findlaw.com

INFOLAWYER :

both highly rated and easy to use by location and practice.

INFOLAWYER :

Is the answer clear and acceptable?

Customer:

Yes and Thank you.

INFOLAWYER :

Great
