a collection agency has called me about a very old credit card

This answer was rated:

a collection agency has called me about a very old credit card debt, it must have been before the year 2000 because I haven't had a credit card since then. What if anything should I do.
Hello. My name is XXXXX XXXXX I will be happy to answer your question.

The statute of limitations on credit card debt is 10 years in Missouri, so while you can use the statute of limitation as affirmative defense if you are sued by the credit card company and the lawsuit would be barred by the statute of limitations, the collection agency is still permitted to attempt to collect this debt, however they would not be able to successfully sue you or to report this old debt to the credit agencies.

I wish you the best of luck!
