Customer: I have a Galion eight inch hydraulic cylinder that I’m trying to rebuild. I locked the box in the up position and removed the rod from the couple and lower the ram back in the cylinder. I removed the ring and the four bolts on the cap. Also removed the hose off the cap. How do I remove the cap. Is it threaded in the cylinder?
JA: Sometimes things that you think will be really complicated end up being easy to fix. The Heavy Equipment Mechanic I'm going to connect you with knows all the tricks and shortcuts.
Customer: Thanks I appreciate it
JA: Anything else you want the Equipment Mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: Step by step to do this will be very helpful. I’ve rebuilt some cylinder on case backhoe but nothing like this one

Can you attach a picture? From what you have described the gland should come out, the four bolts should have been the retaining bolts. be sure the other end of the cylinder is open and the hose is off. Then if it will not come out, tap on it, to see if it knocks in, to expose a set of inner rings.

Looks like the 4 bolts would hold the ring in place.

Try tapping it in, to expose another set of rings.

This is the bolts I took out.
Customer
Four of them

Yes, I see them. What are the four cavities in the top part of the cap?

Customer
Yeah looks that way. That's what I can't figure out
Customer
I'm taping on the cap and it's going in

Looks like the cap still has four bolts in the top! Have you removed them?

Customer
then I put one on opposite sides to see if I could pry it out but no luck

OK> is it still going in?

Customer
I have fluid Between the Cap and the piston and the line hook up
Customer

That's not a ring in the top of the barrel?

Customer
No I think there may be a lock ring inside I just pull it back up and it stop where I started

Maybe it will tap in further?

Customer
I'm going to take the line connection off and push it in and see what's in the cylinder
Customer
Snap ring inside got it

Good job! Thanks for the update.

Customer
Do you think the four bolt location is to add longer bolts to pull the cap

Not sure what purpose they would play.

Customer
Guess I'll find out when I get it out
Customer
Can I text you if I run in to a problem on this project
Customer
Thanks I'll let you know how it comes out
Customer
Update cap still on ! Tried to get it out with the piston didn't work. Now I can spin it around but won't come out or go back in. I think there most be a o ring in the groove for that snap ring. So I've got some threaded rod and going to make a pull with the four holes in the cap. They're only a half inch deep. I figuring they're for some kind of puller. I'll let you know how it goes and if you something else for me to try let me know thanks
