I have a Link Belt 240 X2 excavator, the boom will just raise on its own with the arm over relief or when tracking the machine.

I am, and I have the service manual, Ive tested hydraulic pressures of the work equipment - all are in spec. I have swapped out the boom secondary relief valves- didn't change anything. i bypassed the control pattern change valve- no change. I plugged off the boom spool 1 - didn't change anything, i reconnected that spool and plugged of boom spool 2 and that fixed it however, that spool pilots the swing priority valve and is apart of other systems... this spool get piloted from the control valve.. why is this spool being engaged when tracking or arm is over relief ?

Is the second spool getting pilot control pressure to shift the spool when this is occurring or is the spool itself allowing bypass from sticking or not centering, etc?

I believe it is getting control pressure, the reason why i say this is because if i remove the pilot line the problem goes away

Check the pilot control valves to see if the plungers are sticking or is there is any restrictions or trash on the control valves. If you were to bypass the change valve but swap the lines between boom and stick direct, see if the problem moves with the swap. If so it isolates the pilot control valves.

Sorry for not mentioning it before, i did swap the lines for the controls and it didn't change anything concerning the boom raising when tracking or putting arm over relief. i will have to get the machine washed and remove the boom 2 spool. however where does this spool get its pilot pressure ? the pilot line goes to the control valve and not a PPC.
