Mechanic: catmastertech, Technician replied 5 years ago

Yep, that's one of the older versions. No ET access. You will need to perform all testing through the monitor.

Sis states it will I thing you need a certain harness please look into this
Mechanic: catmastertech, Technician replied 5 years ago

I was looking through SIS for this model under Testing and Adjusting and did not find a reference to ET.

Where are you looking?

Besides, I now the only location on B and C model 325 HEX is on the relay panel. Some had a small six pin plug but, the software to use it is no longer available.

That comes back as a Product Link manual.

Ask Your Own Construction and Road Equipment Question
Customer reply replied 5 years ago
what does that mean
Mechanic: catmastertech, Technician replied 5 years ago

Product Link is the radio and data ECM that will send machine info back to CAT if it is installed. I haven't seen them used on these older machines since it cannot communicate with the machine ECM and this has no engine ECM.

If it had Product link, it would have an external antenna on the cab with a GPS receiver built into the base. Some customers did want them for tracking only. An option but rarely used.

It is good for locating machines and seeing the logged faults on new machines. You must have permission from the dealer to access the site.

In the sections below, the real time errors are what we call active codes and the error log is for the logged faults.

It works a little different but, once you get in the monitor, getting around is easy if you have the manual with you.

Have you ever see intake manifold pressure unavailable on status gp
Mechanic: catmastertech, Technician replied 5 years ago

On some other engines. Can't remember if they called it turbo outlet or right turbo boost pressure. Basically the same reading just a different name.

A few models were different and industrial engine versions can have extra stuff you don't find on standard machines.

  1. Enter service code "1b". The following information will be displayed: the name of the model, type of engine and type of control levers.

"1b 25 CH" is an example.

    25 - This number indicates 325B.

C - This letter indicates a Caterpillar engine.

H - This letter indicates the type of hydraulic control levers.

Note: When "H" is being displayed in the second position from the right, the display will indicate a "MHI mode" type of engine.

Enter service code "1A". The fine control mode switch (25) is pressed in order to move the number that is flashing to the second position from the left. The boom priority mode switch (23) is pushed until a flashing "A" appears. The position of the speed dial is shown by the third number from the left. The three numbers from the left will show the engine rpm that is multiplied by 10. Move the speed dial to the different positions in order to read the target rpm for that speed position.

This function is used to verify that the setting of the engine speed at each position of the engine speed dial corresponds to the factory settings of the engine speed. For the proper engine RPM, refer to the chart.

I saw the question last night but it had been closed, Sorry for the late reply.

ok did that and also did the cal for the Gov control cable / acuwator and it calibrated successful
but when you turn dile up 1 thew ten the rpms start to go up at number 4
Customer reply replied 5 years ago
Are you on line today ?
Mechanic: catmastertech, Technician replied 5 years ago

I would first verify the throttle dial is not working. Switch the backup mode to on and test the throttle with the override control switches. If it does not control the throttle correctly, check the cables and run the calibration again and begin at the set point and verify the throttle is set to full throttle when in set point program.

If the throttle does respond in backup mode, then follow the testing shown below.

  • Engine Speed Dial Does Not Work - Troubleshoot - 420E And 2303 01/10/2004

  • Low Idle Switch Does Not Work - Troubleshoot 01/10/2004

  • AEC Is Abnormal - Troubleshoot 01/10/2004

I will be out for a few hours later but, I will respond as soon as possible when I get back.

At this time, your question is the only one I have. No new post in a few days for CAT equipment.

All are working and the cable is adjusted correctly. so heres what I have going on according to
the chart in sis and the same one you sent me speed dial setting at 1 should be 720 rpm
and 10 should be 2180 rpm correct ? if so in the cable install pro it states to mve lever to to high idel stop keep in mind this is not the first on of thease done by any means so after the cal is done and 70 end shows and no other numbers indicates further adjument of cable is needed I my mulite tach hooked up at speed dilal 10 RPMs are 3800 and number 1 low idel is 1800. Also some one replaced the Eng with a cat REMAN3116 SN# ***** REF ARANG # 9Y1932 Yoiur thoughtsis this the correct arrangement for this machine?
Mechanic: catmastertech, Technician replied 5 years ago

I think your tach is off. I don't think that engine (or pump) would live long at 3800 rpm.

Enter service mode and use the machine monitor view rpm by using....

Parameter Status Checks

Engine RPM

Enter service code 12.

The four characters on the right side of the display indicate the actual engine rpm.

I use this all the time so I would need to use the multi-tach.

Just need to verify the spec number is ***** same 2T7452. Otherwise, the engine could be set to a different horsepower. It appears the spec are close though.

No problem, horsepower is the same and rpm settings are the same.

Other parts may have different numbers due to updates over the years but, the basic engine is still matching to the 0R9696 REMAN part number.

Ok got it and my tac was off .. Ok main relief press is set to spec 4955 psi. When I boom up is very slow and when I hold it over on relief eng Boggs down power shift drops to 159 yes fuel system is good. Implement press switch is good can the pump pressure switch be N g ? If so would it have a code
Customer reply replied 5 years ago
Have you gotten my last email ?
Mechanic: catmastertech, Technician replied 5 years ago

CAT does not list a spec' for power shift pressure because it is an output value influenced by ECM inputs that vary.

The only way to test it is to perform the Proportional Reducing Valve Sweep - Test. You can skip the amp-meter part of the test if the pressures are correct. Most shops don't have the breakout cable anyway.

Please post the findings of this test.

Next, perform the Proportional Reducing Valve - Calibrate

Set it to the exact values shown in the service manual.

If this does not improve the performance, try moving the settings used to calibrate to a high number. This will raise the PRV pressures and reduce the loading on the pump.

If pressures do not change, try a new PRV solenoid. If your engine is still stalling too low, focus on the engine for loss of power.

You will get the following codes from an issue with the pump pressure sensor and they can affect the PRV solenoid and how it loads the pump.

4204 PWM sensor of pump delivery pressure is shorted to frame ground.

4207 PWM sensor of pump delivery pressure is open in the circuit.

I have not noticed a major change in power when they have a code but, that does not mean your sensor (if an active code is present) would not cause power problems.

Primarily, the ECM controller uses the pressure sender to read this pressure for the automatic travel speed control.

Ask Your Own Construction and Road Equipment Question
Customer reply replied 5 years ago
Whats the PN of the prv And is it in the Block of solenoids in the pump compartment?
Mechanic: catmastertech, Technician replied 5 years ago

Always compare engine stall with backup mode off (AUTO MODE) and backup switch on (BACKUP MODE or MANUAL).

This removes the ECM from the systems and sends a preset resistance value to the PRV. If the stall is not present in backup mode, the ECM control circuits are at fault.

If the problem does not change, the PRV, or the pump control heads or the engine is the problem.

(###) ###-####is the Pressure Reducing solenoid. Yes it is part of the 111-950 Manifold Group.

It is next to the pilot relief valve.

All of the solenoids are the same and the accumulator is is the manifold to ?
Mechanic: catmastertech, Technician replied 5 years ago

Sorry, internet is failing on me.

NO, the PRV is different. You cannot swap these around for testing. (C models started using the same for all three.)

Yes, it is the Pilot manifold with the accumulater.

Ask Your Own Construction and Road Equipment Question
Customer reply replied 5 years ago
Ok RR the prv all is good no engine Bog.
So the main complaint is bucket moves very slow your thoughts ?
Mechanic: catmastertech, Technician replied 5 years ago

I would perform cycle time testing to see if anything else is slow. If it is only the bucket, check for damaged cylinder or hoses. Look for hot spots to indicate restrictions. Also test for cylinder bypassing. Try lifting the machine with the bucket and see if it will hold the load. (possible weak relief)

I assume the pilot pressure is good. You could install a test tee in the pilot ports at the main control valve and test the input pressure to see if it is equal. If pressure deference is much higher than other valves or opposite ends, you could have a pilot stem in the joystick damaged or the joint the lever is attached could be worn.

I start with the easy fixes and cheap parts when I cannot find the problem and then move to the more expensive parts. Sometime it takes trying things to find these strange issues.

Line relief ? Joy is easy to eliminate if unit has a pattern changer. I have to check if it's slow both ways or only on curl.
Mechanic: catmastertech, Technician replied 5 years ago

OOPS, yea, line relief. It is rare and I have not seen one fail on these machines but, other models.

Pattern changers only swap boom and stick. (Unless you have some Grey Market machine with the goofy Japanese four way changer)
