D6M LGP Running a 3116T , Oil warning light and buzzer came on
JA: What is the complete model and serial number of your machine?
Customer: can`t answer that at present , topped up engine oil , it was low Light and warning buzzer went out , but machine started blowing a lot of black smoke when under load . inside of 20 min of running warning started again , checked dip stick , did not register / oil gone ! no visible oil leak !
JA: Anything else you want the equipment mechanic to know before I connect you?

Sounds like the turbocharger has failed. Remove the air filter hose and inspect the compressor wheel. Is should move a small amount side to side but, not forward or backwards. It sound also spin freely without making contact with any internal scrapping noise.

Next remove the small hose from the compressor housing to the intake. You should not have any oil in this area. It can have a small amount but, if you find it dripping with oil, the turbocharger has failed.

Also, if you see oil coming out the exhaust side of the turbo, the seals have failed. The pipe up to the muffler should never have oil in it.
