I have a Terramite T5C backhoe with Kohler Command 20hp engine.

Recently engine stalls after operating...

I have a Terramite T5C backhoe with Kohler Command 20hp engine. Recently engine stalls after operating properly for several minutes. Then it will start and stall again after a few minutes. Recently I installed new starts and solenoid combo but it didn't fix the problem. The engine runs longer on low to medium RPM but on high rpm it stalls sooner. I suspect wiring problem or power distribution to spark plugs. How is power distributed to spark plugs? The distributor seems to be covered by the engine shield and cannot be easily accessed without removing the engine.
Any advise what causes stalling and how to access the distributor will be greatly appreciated. This backhoe is probably about 20 years old.

Is engine firing on both cylinders? Loosen the spark plug wires, and with engine idling pull one spark plug wire at a time to see if the engine keeps running. If it dies when one is removed, the opposite cylinder is dead. With twin engine, it is not likely you loose spark to both cylinders, causing the stall in less only one cylinder is firing. Does the engine have the Oil Guard system that would kill engine if oil pressure drops?

If not a park problem, does the carburetor have an electric solenoid in it? This would be a fuel solenoid , used to plug the main jet, to keep engine from backfiring when key is shut off.
