Hello, my name is Dan. IS this machine overheating and pushing the coolant out of the resevoir?

Have you tried to replace the radiator cap,possible the vent check valve is not breathing. Also look at the external drain or vent hose from the tank to make sure it's not plugged.

Is the coolant color getting dark or is the tank showing any signs of a film residue.

Hi and thanks for the infomation. My thoughts are the radiator cap has a check valve to let pressure escape but also maintian pressure in the system. An old cap might not be able to perform the job, so a replacement could be a good start. It is important to monitor the engine temp, so fixing the gauge should be a priority. One reason you losing coolant is ifyou have combustion in the coolant from a leaking head gasket. This will over pressurize the tank and blow the coolant off. eventually the motor will overheat due to lack of coolant.

One simple test to check for this issue is to purchase coolant gas detector that will sample the fumes from the colant tank and tell you if there is signs of combustion in there. Local parts stores sell it, let me find you a link for online version.

The thermostat is normally found by following the top radiator hose back to the engine. Where it connects to the head is the spot to locate the t-stat. Yes a t-stat will cause the motor to overheat, you can remove it or drill holes in it to by-pass it to determine if that is the fault. If you run the motor hot, you will ruin the componets, such as warped head, scored liners and eventaully siezed motor.

I don't have the break down for that motor,but I will look for info. Somtimes you will get a milky film on the dipstick or oil fill indicating water in the oil. This can be a sign of the head gasket, liner, or waterpump seal leaking. SInce your tank seems to be overpressurizing I would bet on head issues. The T-stat itself will only cuase the machines coolant flow to minimize and thus overheat the motor. You should be able to use a heat gun to check the temp around the head and radiator to see if coolant is flowing.

Hello, I found a picture of the t-stat. It is located in the transmision oil cooler housing. I can send a picture, but I will need to change the format. What should you do, HMMM well keep it simple. My thought is to get the combustion leak tester kit($50-$60) and see if there is combustion in the coolant. This would tellyou the motor needs to come apart. If that is okay have a mechanic check the radiator cap with a cooling tester. At the same time pressureize the system for leaks, then also with the coolant tester on the tank, run the machine and see if pressure builds up quickly on the gauge. This to would indicate combustion leakage. One other possible cause can be an air compressor. If equiped, they are water cooled and can give this symptom of pressurized tank. I'm not sure if your model has a compressor or not.
