My monitor attached to my laptop is suddenly in power saving

Hi my monitor attached to my laptop is suddenly in power saving mode and i cant get it back
JA: What's the brand/model and Operating System (OS) of your laptop?
Customer: Dell inspiron 7720
JA: What have you tried so far with your Inspiron? Have you installed any updates recently?
Customer: When i first turned the laptop and screen on it worked for about 5mins then it went to power saving mode. Since then i have just had to do an update. I am running windows 10
JA: Anything else you want the Computer Expert to know before I connect you?

No nothing, the only time i get anything is if i turn it off and then back on and it just has a bubble floating saying power saving mode

sorry i may not have made that very clear at the beginning. The laptop is ok, the external monitor is a lenovo think vision connected by hdmi. It was previously working fine but today it went into power saving

from your laptop , is sleep mode is setting Never

I think it is set to 20mins. Taking ages to restart, installing an update

go to settings on your windows, set display as 2 and power and sleep mode as Never for testing purpose , later you can change it to 20 min

you have to do settings in Laptop itself , nothing in the external monitor.

display settings and sleep mode.Also the display driver .
