Windows 10 no longer recognizes my DVD/CD drive

Technician's Assistant: Who makes your speaker or sound system?

I don't know

Technician's Assistant: What have you tried so far with your sound system?

The sound is okay. Windows can not find the DVD/CD drive that was ID as Drive: G. This drive is gone so i can't acces it.

Technician's Assistant: Anything else you want the Theater Expert to know before I connect you?

I tried a Windows 10 help suggestion but that failed.

Hi, I have a 2-yr old HP Envy Laptop. The problem began today. I had a virtual drive F: that was assigned to a Western Digital external drive; and my internal DVD/CD drive was assighned Drive F:. I loaded a CD but it didn't start-up. I discovered that the back-up software had been copied to Drive G. Therefore, both F/G were assigned the same function. I disconnected the external drive and deleted through Windows all back-up software. Both F: and G: have disappeared from file explorer.
