Hi & ty. My hp laptop has been downloading things to my computer without asking and i can't get it to stop.

Technician's Assistant: What's the model and Operating System (OS) of your HP?

Hp pavilion notebook 15.6" hd touch display. windows 10. I downloaded updates for windows after purchase, some games from the store, and also chrome and that's when it began.

Technician's Assistant: What have you tried so far with your Pavilion? Have you installed any updates recently?

Only what's being downloaded w/o asking. I don't know what's being downloaded. When I checked, it said up to date.

Technician's Assistant: Anything else you want the Computer Expert to know before I connect you?

No, can't connect for $39. husband is disabled and I'm unable to work so funds are limited. Not sure what's downloading. One time it said features.

That is understandable. You can click the button to choose not to use the remote offer.

I'm not sure. All I know is that it restarts.

It hasn't cut off since you turned off updates.

Sure, but will I be able to manually update windows in the future?

I would like for you to test it for at least another day so that we know for sure the problem is with windows updates. Once we know that for sure, we can fix the Windows Updates service.

Sorry that it took so long to respond. I have a Catahoula pup & a ginger kitten to contend with plus a 13-year-old AmStaff, a 6-year-old lab/pit mix & a chihuahua. They're a tad hyper today because we have a roofer fixing a leak.

Ok, Jason. There have been no further unprompted restarts. Now, what happens with Windows update? Does it have to remain off or what?
Now that we know it is a problem with Windows updates, I can reset and repair it. I already completed the tasks needed to repair the Windows updates system, but I will do it again. When is a good time to do this?

Hello Jason. Yesterday Windows update downloaded and a while after it was installed I got this error message;
"We're having trouble restarting to finish the install. Try again in a little
while. If you keep seeing this, try searching the web or contacting support for
help. This error code might help: (0x8024a112)"

4 updates were completed on 3/21 according to the app. There are 3 updates downloading now.

It downloaded without problem. It didn't prompt but I had the update app open. When the app said awaiting restart, I restarted the laptop & installed the update without an error message. .

the defender updates did not install. Do I have to delete mcafee? Defender says changes need to be made to mcafee in order for the defender firewall to work.

If you wish, you may uninstall Mcafee.

That may be the problem. Do you wish to renew the Mcafee subscription?

I'm financially unable to at this time. But, I may be able to sometime in the near future.

In that case, you may want to uninstall Mcafee for now until you wish to continue the subscription. At that time, you may reinstall Mcaffee.
