Technician's Assistant: What's the brand/model/Operating System (OS) of your computer?

Windows 10 64 bit with a dell se2417hg monitor and an nvidia geforce gtx 980 ti gpu

Technician's Assistant: When did you purchase your Dell? What troubleshooting have you tried?

I purchased my dell monitor about a year ago and it has run fine. it only recently started doing this. It has happened once before when I first built my computer.

Technician's Assistant: Anything else you want the Computer Expert to know before I connect you?

I've also tried resetting the computer, making sure all connections are secure, rebooting in safe mode, low resolution (vGA) mode, and unistalliong/reinstalling graphics drivers and monitor drivers, almost any kind of drivers you can think of.

P.S.: This only happens when I'm running video games, and it's only at certain points in the game, usually withing the first 10 minutes of starting to play. I have a feeling that the gpu is not syncing correctly with the monitor for some reason.

This is primarily a Windows 10 issue. Can you get to DISPLAY ADAPTER PROPERTIES in DISPLAY SETTINGS and find the resolution the screen is asking for and test that out?

Ask Your Own Computer Question
Tech Support Specialist: Specialist Sean S., Computer Support Specialist replied 8 months ago

And yes, the monitor is having a hard time synchronizing with the signal from the GPU

Also, in screen resolution, go to Advanced Settings and change the refresh rate to 60Hertz and let me know if everything is resolved by then.

I have already done this.. it doesn't fix the problem. It's like the gpu keeps switching as soon as the game gets going. Every resolution is correct. Could this maybe be an issue in BIOS? perhaps a power issue or the signal coming from the wrong pci bus
Tech Support Specialist: Specialist Sean S., Computer Support Specialist replied 8 months ago

What is the game in question so I can dig into this a bit more?

Ask Your Own Computer Question
Customer reply replied 8 months ago
You don't understand, it's all games. The graphics card must be the issue, I just don't know how to synchronize it with the monitor.
Tech Support Specialist: Specialist Sean S., Computer Support Specialist replied 8 months ago

I'm sorry. I wasn't aware it's all games. I've only seen it in the past with individual ones. Let me look into this a bit further and I'll follow up today with what I can suggest. It sounds like you've done quite a bit more troubleshooting than most others do for this, but I'm looking into it

Hi John, Thank you for your expertise and, more important, for your kindness because they make me, almost, look forward to my next computer problem. After the next problem comes, I'll be delighted to correspond again with you. I'm told that I excel at programing. But system administration has never been one of my talents. So it's great to have an expert to rely on when the computer decides to stump me. God bless, Bill
