with the mother board above and some other parts I am having an issue where whenever I put a small amount of strain on my new build, my computer will freeze and reset without giving me any errors.
Tech Support Specialist: Dan, Computer Support Specialist replied 9 months ago

Okay thank you. First, what type of memory and how much are you using? Do you have a good heatsink and fan installed on the main processor?

Ask Your Own Computer Question
Customer reply replied 9 months ago
I just double checked the fan and heat sink so that should be good. I’m using 2x4 GB g.skill ripjaws ddr3 pc3
Tech Support Specialist: Dan, Computer Support Specialist replied 9 months ago

Do you have sufficient air flow through the case?

Ask Your Own Computer Question
Customer reply replied 9 months ago
three intake fans and one outtake. Also this occurs even when I have the side panel completely removed.
Tech Support Specialist: Dan, Computer Support Specialist replied 9 months ago

Have you changed any of the BIOS/UEFI settings on the motherboard?

Ask Your Own Computer Question
Customer reply replied 9 months ago
No
Tech Support Specialist: Dan, Computer Support Specialist replied 9 months ago

Does it always crash or just when using a certain program?

Ask Your Own Computer Question
Customer reply replied 9 months ago
Not a specific program but it’s not random.. it’s only when the computer has to do a little work. For example if I play a video on YouTube or start a video game or run pretty much any program.
Tech Support Specialist: Dan, Computer Support Specialist replied 9 months ago

What version of Windows are you using and how did you install it?

Ask Your Own Computer Question
Customer reply replied 9 months ago
Windows 10.. I downloaded the windows installer onto a usb with the windows 10 media creation tool. Then when my computer was booting I booted using the usb drive.
Customer reply replied 9 months ago
Windows 10 pro specifically
Tech Support Specialist: Dan, Computer Support Specialist replied 9 months ago

Okay. How about your hardware drivers? Do you have the latest from the manufacturers?

Ask Your Own Computer Question
Customer reply replied 9 months ago
I believe so. I installed everything I thought I needed and then used driver support pro to fill in any gaps I needed and to get the most recent versions.
Tech Support Specialist: Dan, Computer Support Specialist replied 9 months ago

Did the motherboard come with a setup disc?

Ask Your Own Computer Question
Customer reply replied 9 months ago
It says it is a chipset support dvd, not sure if that is for instillation. I do not have a disc reader though. I could install the disc on another computer and then put it on a usb. The disc says it only supports windows 7. So I went to the Asus website to find the most recent drivers.
Tech Support Specialist: Dan, Computer Support Specialist replied 9 months ago

Well the chipset updates should be available on the Asus web site as well. I am more inclined to think this is either hardware, memory, or possibly a video driver issue. Try removing one of your memory modules and see if your machine will run continuously. If not swap them around and try again.

Ask Your Own Computer Question
Customer reply replied 9 months ago
No configuration of memory works.
Tech Support Specialist: Dan, Computer Support Specialist replied 9 months ago

You mean nothing changed, it still freezes and restarts?

Ask Your Own Computer Question
Customer reply replied 9 months ago
Correct, that is what I meant.
Tech Support Specialist: Dan, Computer Support Specialist replied 9 months ago

What are you using for a video processor. Did you install a card or are you using on board video from the motherboard?

Ask Your Own Computer Question
Tech Support Specialist: Dan, Computer Support Specialist replied 9 months ago

You can also go to this LINK for this utility. Hopefully you can keep the computer running long enough to take a few readings.

Tech Support Specialist: Dan, Computer Support Specialist replied 9 months ago

You can also consider the size (wattage) of your power supply. What are you using there?

Ask Your Own Computer Question
Customer reply replied 9 months ago
I do not believe I installed a video processor.. I must be using on board video from the motherboard
Customer reply replied 9 months ago
My power supply is 850 w
Tech Support Specialist: Dan, Computer Support Specialist replied 9 months ago

Okay then there are two things you can pretty much eliminate. What are you using for a hard drive?

Ask Your Own Computer Question
Customer reply replied 9 months ago
Samsung evo 850 ssd
Tech Support Specialist: Dan, Computer Support Specialist replied 9 months ago

Check Device Manager to see if you have any problems listed there. Did you setup or check the BIOS/UEFI for the hard drive setting?

Ask Your Own Computer Question
Tech Support Specialist: Dan, Computer Support Specialist replied 9 months ago

Also check for a setting in the BIOS called Smart Boost. Disable it if it is on.

Ask Your Own Computer Question
Customer reply replied 9 months ago
As soon as I click on anything in device manager my computer resets..
Customer reply replied 9 months ago
Do you get to bios through “bios setup” when Your PC starts?
Tech Support Specialist: Dan, Computer Support Specialist replied 9 months ago

Normally you should see instructions to enter the BIOS setup when the computer starts. Something like press F12 or F1 to enter setup.

Ask Your Own Computer Question
Customer reply replied 9 months ago
Mine is delete.. whenever I click it, it shows it for a second but then it closes and continues to launch windows.
Customer reply replied 9 months ago
When I was installing all my drivers, the computer never reset once. Could I have installed an improper driver?
Tech Support Specialist: Dan, Computer Support Specialist replied 9 months ago

Are you sure you are accessing the BIOS or are you accessing the boot order setup?

Ask Your Own Computer Question
Customer reply replied 9 months ago
I am accessing the bios.. it says “bios setup” - del key
Tech Support Specialist: Dan, Computer Support Specialist replied 9 months ago

Try pressing and holding it as you restart the computer.

Customer reply replied 9 months ago
I did, the setup pops up for a second but then goes away.. can I continue this service without additional charge tomorrow? I want to try resetting my computer completely and reinstalling drivers more carefully.

Hi John, Thank you for your expertise and, more important, for your kindness because they make me, almost, look forward to my next computer problem. After the next problem comes, I'll be delighted to correspond again with you. I'm told that I excel at programing. But system administration has never been one of my talents. So it's great to have an expert to rely on when the computer decides to stump me. God bless, Bill
