Inspiron laptop bought about...

Inspiron laptop bought about a year ago goes click...click...click about each second. Originally displayed error message that hard drive not installed. Later messages at attempted startup say that no bootable devices found.

Technician's Assistant: Just to clarify, how often have you been getting this particular message?

Started yesterday, and several shutdowns and attempted restarts failed in this way.

Technician's Assistant: Have you installed any updates recently?

Not that I recall.

Technician's Assistant: Anything else you want the Computer Expert to know before I connect you?

I have no other data, except it was fouled by a virus or worm a few months back, and proper operation restored by Office Depot. I don't think it's connected to this problem.

Sorry to hear you're having trouble with your Inspiron laptop.

Is the laptop still under warranty? The clicking sound is coming from the hard drive - it is a physical issue inside the enclosure. It is sometimes fixable, but you will need to take it to someone experienced at a local computer shop. If you do not have any important data on it, I would recommend having the hard drive replaced with a new one.
