I have a Surface tablet. It's telling me "Your PC isn't connected to the Internet." I think I need the security key or network password. This problem has been going on for more than 4 weeks. I have Internet connection because I'm using my laptop now. Help!
JA: Just to clarify, what's the exact make and model of your tablet computer?
Customer: Surface RT.
JA: Have you installed any updates recently?
Customer: I was notified several weeks ago that it was set for automatic installation of updates. However, it did not complete the updates because of "some type of error." The installation failed.
JA: Anything else you want the computer expert to know before I connect you?
Customer: My service provider is Xfinity but I'm not having any problems with my laptop.

Are you getting the connection error when you try to log in to the surface?

If your laptop is connected wirelessly, the network security key can be recovered from it and then you can use it on the surface

to sign in. Can you tell me what version of Windows is on the laptop?

I can log in but when I try to open Mail or go to Search to find an article or try to open an app, I get the statement, "Your PC isn't connected to the Internet."

Thank you. Please check these settings:

  1. Press “Windows Key” + “R”.
  2. Type “inetcpl.cpl” and click OK
  3. Go to Connection.
  4. Click on LAN Settings.
  5. Check the box which says Automatically detect settings.
  6. Uncheck the box under Proxy server.
