Is it a Sony Vaio laptop? or some other type or model?
Turn it Off, or do a Shutdown on the Sony computer in question.
Then, unplug the keyboard, and plug it in again firmly properly and completely.
(You may have to turn the CPU box around to do this properly.)
Then, turn it On again, let it boot up, see what errors or other problem it shows, and see if the keyboard now works.
Can the keyboard type characters into the space where the password ***** be entered?
