I cannot get mail from my laptop. it rejects what I thought

I cannot get mail from my laptop. it rejects what I thought was my password. It tells me it will send me a key on my celll. I have tried now at least 6 times and no key comes! I am frustrated
JA: When did you last reset your username and password?
Customer: A few months ago when I was in Florida, as it did the same thing there
JA: Have you installed any updates recently?
Customer: no
