JA: Just to clarify, what's the exact model of your Asus? And what operating system are you running?

JA: Have you installed any updates recently?
Customer: Yes One day they installed by themselves and it took about an hour

You should have three connectors on this headset.

3.5 mm(1/8”) connector Audio/mic combo
3.5 mm(1/8”) connector Audio/mic separate
3.5 mm(1/8”) connector unique 5-pole

Your Asus X540S has a "combo" audio/mic connector. So you should only have to use the combo connector from the headset in the 3.5mm jack in the laptop.

If you are using the control box, then the 5 pole connector goes into the control box - control box is powered by the USB cable, and the two cables left are the separate mic/audio cables. For that you will need an adapter to combine those into the single 3.5mm plug.
