I have a new Benq monitor and connected to my iMac. The iMac

JA: Hello. What seems to be the problem?
Customer: I have a new Benq monitor and connected to my iMac. The iMac knows it is there but I have nothing on the display. I have switched it to the correct port, unplugged the monitor and back in and I have re-started the mac.. no change!
JA: How much experience do you have with this particular machine?
Customer: The bend is just a monitor... it is new. I am experienced with my imac
JA: Have you installed any updates recently?
Customer: My iMac is up to date

How exactly are you connecting the monitor? What type of connection, and are you using any adapters?

Are you using a genuine apple adapter, or another brand?

I have two... one is apple the other is not, both do the same thing... the mac recognizes the monitor, but no display on the monitor.

Please complete the SMC and PRAM reset procedure. Then try the connection again. Let me know results.


  • Shut down the computer.
  • Unplug the computer's power cord from both the wall and computer.
  • Wait 15 seconds.
  • Attach the computers power cable.
  • Wait another 5 seconds and press the power button to turn on the computer.


  • Shut down the computer.
  • Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
  • Turn on the computer.
  • Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
  • Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
  • Release the keys.
