How do I set up a default directory when I go to open a file?How do I resolve the message "wordperfect is shutting down?" This happens often, 2-3 times a day.

Follow the instructions below to set the default directory for opening files:

  1. In the top menu bar, click Tools > Settings.
  2. In the Settings dialog box, click the Files icon.
  3. In the Files Settings dialog box, click the Document tab.
  4. Click the Browse button beside the “Default document folder” box.
  5. In the Select Folder dialog box, choose the folder you want to set as the default folder when opening documents, and click Select.
  6. In the Files Settings dialog box, click OK.

When WordPerfect closes and errors out like that, it is time to run a repair on WordPerfect:

  1. Hold down the two following keys at the same time: Windows key and the letter R
  2. In the box that comes up, type: appwiz.cpL
  3. Click the Ok button.
  4. Right click the WordPerfect listing in that list of applications and choose Change/Remove.
  5. In the window that comes up, choose the Repair option and run the repair.
