My work was interrupted by an unending message announcing

Customer Question

My work was interrupted by an unending message announcing that my computer was at risk and claiming it was someone at Microsoft who wanted to discover the problem in my computer and fix it. Was this actually Microsoft?
JA: Just to clarify, what's the exact model of your computer? And what operating system are you running?
Customer: Windows 10. I have a Toshiba Satellite just over a year old.
JA: Have you installed any updates recently?
Customer: The announcement, I discovered later, installed one -- a shortcut that "can't be accessed any more."
JA: Anything else you want the computer expert to know before I connect you?
Customer: I want to know if this is a legitimate Microsoft tech support announcement or whether I should treat it like a scam

Hi. My name is***** you for your question and the opportunity to assist.

This was a scam attempt. Microsoft, nor any reputable company, does business this way.

Was anyone allowed to connect to your computer?
