Customer Question

trying to reconfigure my DIR 862L router to shut off UPNP feature as requesed by Login and/or password ***** I have recorded don't work
JA: Have you tried "power cycling" your router -- unplugging it and letting it rest for about ten seconds?
Customer: Haven't done that but will do now.
JA: Have you installed any updates recently?
Customer: No
JA: Anything else you want the computer expert to know before I connect you?
Customer: I am not what one would call anywhere near an expert on routers :)

Hi, thank you for contacting My name is Russell. I will do my best to provide the right answer to your question.

I have to ask first, since you confess you're not an expert, and doing anything hasty could harm the setup you have:

- is your internet DSL internet? or cable internet? or FIOS/fiber-optic/similar?

Depending on that question, approaches to your question's answer must vary.

Cable internet provided by Cogeco Canada. They are requesting that I turn off the UPNP feature on the router. I can get on to the router and see all the options available including the job requested but each time I remove the check mark in the UPNP 'On' box, it immediately returns. Can't seem to log on as administrator.
I am leaving shortly for the weekend and will shut the router off until I return late Sunday. Can we continue this Monday ?

Don't want to invest any more in this device. Will purchase a new one

That's one attempt at a solution - I hope it works.

Should I leave off trying to advise you on this matter, then?
